Convert PDF files to XBRL or iXBRL

What is for?

In countries around the world, authorities have or are in the process of mandating that company accounts and tax returns be made in XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) or iXBRL format.  This is an interactive data format type which radically changes financial and business reporting.

For example HMRC in the UK require that UK companies submit both corporation tax returns and company accounts online in iXBRL format for accounting periods ending after 31 March 2010.

However, many large and medium-sized companies, in the final stages, manually produce their company accounts using Microsoft Word, Excel or similar applications, and then output as PDF.

As a result there is a requirement to batch process such PDFs converting them into XBRL or iXBRL.  This requirement is fulfilled by Stelae's Khemeia software.

How does Khemeia work?

The software works on the principle of detecting structure and patterns that the eye sees when viewing a page - humans create documents primarily using visual logic.  Khemeia interprets this visual logic and combines this with heuristic dictionary functionality.
